1988 was the Second Summer Of Love, a musical and social phenomenon that changed the way people experience music and clubbing in many pervasive and profound ways. More than 30 years on and fashion seems to be inspired again by the explosion of acid house, illegal raves and psychedelic drugs that characterized that infamous summer. After months spent cooped up inside, worrying about a global pandemic we looked forward to the summer of 2020 with cautious optimism and only had to glance at the current fashion collections to discover the explosion of colors, cartoonish prints, tie-dye fabrics and mix and match aesthetics that mimic those heady days of late 80’s hedonism. But with social distancing, clubs that won’t reopen for months, vacations put on hold indefinetily can this still be the third Summer Of Love? Can our desire for human interaction, for going back to spending time with friends, albeit with masks and gloves, be a substitute for the emotional highs of dancing in a sweaty illegal rave, hugging strangers high on Xtasy and experiencing the acid rush of early house music? As countries slowly open back up we can only embrace the positive vibes of funky, fun, fashion, no-fucks-given styles and dancefloor-ready prints, and hope that one day soon we will all be together again, under the moon, raving.
